Bloom Tuesday, No. 21: Berry Pretty
September 23, 2008 by mynortherngarden

In fall, berries are as striking as blooms. This year we have a large crop of perfectly formed, perfectly red berries on the American highbush cranberry bushes in our backyard. These will hang on all winter, providing food for birds and comfortable places for snow to rest.

That is a beauty! Why don’t I have one of those viburnums!
Layanee: Thanks for stopping by. These are pretty, but they do get BIG. I let the ones in the back get about 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide, but the ones in the front we have to prune a lot. The berries are nice, though, and since it’s winter here six months a year, they provide a little color when we need it.
