Mary,
Glad you got some bargains at the Northfield Garden Club's plant sale. Now if the weather would just warm up...

Our new web site is northfieldgardenclub.org (in place of .com). You might want to switch to this in your listing.

Thanks for your great blog. We are adding it to the Garden Club's list of recommendations for online gardening sites.

Thanks for visiting my site. And don't wait for the dollar to improve in value to travel to France. I don't think the dollar will. I think the U.S. is "ratcheting down" to fit our current standard in the world, and, for the first time in our lifetimes, we're not #1.

And the flight attendants were an added bonus. We met them as they were there celebrating the retirement of the youngest of the group.

But back to Monet, his plantings were all in rows of like colors. And they were planted so heavily that there were constant blooms throughout the year. Easier to do when you have some wealth, time, space and a good gardener or two.

This is an interesting look at colour theory for the garden. A look at a Monet painting does make you yearn for large swaths of colourful plantings. I try to create what I hope will be good combinations, but I don't always time it right with the capricious or short bloom times of some perennials. Lately I've been settling for trying to get some good foliage combinations. However, while looking at the above painting, I'm getting the urge to tear out a little more lawn and widen a few beds.

That looks like a good hat for the garden. The band probably also makes sure it fits different sized heads. Wish I remembered to wear a hat more often.

Having a personal history of melanoma, I'm with you on the hat-wearing! I have a nice round-brimmed straw one I bought in Savannah. When I wear it I look like a rice-paddy worker. But that's okay.

What a beautiful color, and I like the fullness of it - not like the waxy-perfect roses of the traditional "dozen red."
